Fleet Compliance Audit

Your partner in transport compliance for fleets in the UK.

What is a fleet compliance audit?

A fleet compliance audit is a full review of how well your vehicle-fleet business meets the regulatory and operational standards required by UK law.

For operators of HGVs, vans, trailers or mixed fleets, it examines systems such as vehicle maintenance, driver hours, tachograph management, operating-centre records and contract documentation.

UK operators must hold an appropriate operator licence if they use vehicles above certain weight thresholds or for hire or reward. The purpose of the licence regime is to ensure safe operation of goods vehicles, fair competition and protection of the environment around operating centres.

GOV.UK – Being a Goods Vehicle Operator

Why your business needs a fleet compliance audit

Conducting a fleet compliance audit helps you stay ahead of enforcement risks. The Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) and the Traffic Commissioner’s Office monitor vehicle-operating businesses and expect robust systems. For example, they publish the “Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness” which highlights daily checks, inspections and record-keeping as part of good fleet management.

GOV.UK – Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness

  • Where your compliance systems are weak or missing
  • How you can strengthen policies and procedures before any official visit
  • Evidence you can present at an inquiry or during licence renewal
  • A safer, more efficient operation that supports your business reputation

What our audit includes

At Logan Logistics we tailor your fleet compliance audit around your fleet size, vehicle types and business model. Our standard audit package covers:

  • Review of maintenance, defect-reporting and vehicle inspection records, in line with DVSA guidance.
  • Assessment of tachograph data, driver hours, licence and training records.
  • Evaluation of your transport manager systems, risk-management and operating-centre documentation.
  • A written report showing compliance status (Compliant / Minor / Major / Critical), plus actionable recommendations.
  • Templates and best-practice checklist you can embed in your internal systems.

How we work – simple process

  1. Initial consultation: discuss your fleet, vehicle types, records and known issues.
  2. On-site or remote document review, staff interviews and system checks.
  3. Delivery of our audit report + presentation of findings.
  4. Optional follow-up support: corrective-action implementation, training, ongoing monitoring.

With this approach, you can complete your fleet compliance audit in approximately 7–14 days (subject to size and access to records).

Benefits of choosing Logan Logistics

  • Operational experience in commercial fleets, not just theoretical checklists.
  • A UK-based team that understands DVSA and Traffic Commissioner expectations.
  • Clear, actionable reporting and templates you can reuse.
  • Confidence in your compliance systems — helping you reduce operational risk, maintain your licence and protect your reputation.

Restricted O Licence
CPC Transport Manager

Compliance Essentials for a Restricted Operator’s Licence

Holders of a Restricted Operator’s Licence are permitted to move only their own goods in vehicles over 3.5 tonnes, not goods for hire or reward. Despite being “restricted”, you are still subject to the same core obligations as Standard licence holders: vehicle road‑worthiness, driver entitlement, hours rules (if applicable) and robust record‑keeping. Audits may be undertaken by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) or the Office of the Traffic Commissioner, and failing to demonstrate compliance properly can lead to a licence being curtailed or revoked.
